On June 8, 2020, Dr. Jia Wenshan, Distinguished Professor of Shandong University and Dean of the Global Engagement Academy of Shandong University, Weihai, attended the Global Distinguished Online Lectures of the Communication Forum at Zhejiang University on invitation, and gave a lecture entitled "Globalization and China-US Relations".
During the lecture, Professor Jia, in the context of the current globalization, reviewed the history of the first three times of globalization. After the clear exposition of the historical background, connotation, extension and strategy of Chinese-style global discourse and practice, he compared the similarities and differences between globalization with Chinese style and globalization in American mode, as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages, and further elaborated on the way to manage China-US relations. The globalization with Chinese style and the globalization in American mode, in his view, need to be compatible with each other rather than mutually exclusive, and complementary with each other rather than weakening. China and US can keep a harmonious coexistence with one another if combining these two modes without the absolute separation.
The lecture of Professor Jia, which was presided over by Hong Yu, Director of the Institute of Communication Studies of Zhejiang University, rich in content and wide in perspectives, boasts a sense of foresight and future for the current international relations, which has broadened the horizons of teachers and students present.
